Bio

I was first introduced to a video camera at the age of six, poetry at the age of eight, novels at the age of ten. Ever since, I have been creating, writing, producing, everything and anything that comes to mind.

I am a journo junkie and my name is Joanna Rentería.

I am currently a freelance Journalist & full-time graduate student at the California State University of Northridge pursuing an M.A. in Mass Communication. In 2010, I graduated from San Francisco State University with two B.A.’s (Broadcast Journalism & Spanish).

I am proud to say that I am Mexican-American. Soy latina, pocha, chicana, e hispana.

I am 100% bilingual o bilingüe, and I have the ability to work fluently in both languages. I have a background in print, radio, digital, and television. Mostly all in news reporting.

Soy adicta a las redes sociales, I am a social media addict… and I have a huge interest in finding the correlation between this phenomenon and television news. How do both intertwine? and how are young Latinos in the U.S. currently being informed?
From now until May of 2014, I will work on developing a thesis project that will focus on answering just that.

I do not eat carne (meat) and I am big on working out…

I write on health from time to time.
